Tracking the Charts

With the holidays just around the corner, and wish lists being checked off, many artists have been releasing albums in the hopes of making it into your shopping cart. In November, One Direction, Justin Bieber, and Adele, all well-known figures in the music industry, released new albums within one week of each other. One Direction released their album, Made in the A.M., on Friday, November 13th. Not only did the boy band’s new hits drop, but so did Justin Bieber’s. With an album called Purpose, the reclaimed singer made his way up to the top of the United States charts. Only a week later, Adele released her record-breaking album, 25. With a total of 47 new beats from three new albums, the music world has been thrown into a frenzy of excitement. With listeners calling the music, “truly moving” and describing it as “[music that] genuinely tugs at one’s heartstrings,” many people across the country were touched.

On Friday, November 13th, Directioners across the globe put in their earbuds and tried to hear the new album over the shrieks of dedicated fan girls. With both upbeat and slow tracks, there is something on this album for everyone. According to iTunes, their hottest track was “Perfect,” an upbeat song with a mature tone compared to One Direction’s previous music production. Catchy tunes also made their way into this album, including “Olivia.” Although not the most popular song on this release, you may find yourself singing the lyrics and trying your hardest to hit the high notes as you dance in front of the mirror in your bedroom. Sharing a release date with the boy banders, Justin Bieber released his new album, Purpose. Soaring to the number one spot on iTunes within a day, this album is a big hit.. His single, “Sorry” is the most popular track on the album. With Skrillex and Blood as co-writers of the beat, “Sorry” has a unique sound that catches the attention of many. Bieber went on to co-write a song with “Photograph” singer, Ed Sheeran. Calling this slower song, “Love Yourself,” Bieber is heard singing and humming to a less electronic and almost acoustic track. This song also is a fan favorite. Between his crooning to the lyrics, “my mama don’t like you and she likes everyone,” and “I fell in love now I fear nothin’ at all,” many people walk away with a strong connection to these gorgeous melodies, perhaps one of the reasons of the song’s success.

Adele, a crowd favorite, released new music for the first time in five years. With one jaw-dropping and chart breaking single, “Hello,” people went crazy for Adele’s highly anticipated album, 25. As in an effort to say hello again to the music universe, Adele released her single on October 23, 2015. The vocal powerhouse is heard singing to a background of piano tones with a slight echo. Only a minute into the song, many find themselves covered in chills by Adele’s strong, moving voice. The slow tune quickly climbed to the number one song on iTunes, and did not waver much after reaching such a victory. In addition to “Hello,” faster songs were released on her album, including “Water Under The Bridge.” In this upbeat song, Adele reveals her ability to pick up the pace as she belts out the repetitive, catchy tune.

With all of the new songs released in November 2015, your earbuds will never run silent. With a wide range of songs, from catchy and fast to slow and powerful, there is a song for everyone on at least one of the three booming recent releases. Happy listening!
