The new ASB is excited to start the new school year.

On April 1st, the entire Wilcox Student Body gathered in the big gym for ASB Elections and listened to seventeen people deliver short but powerful speeches.  The 2016-2017 ASB will consist of five juniors and eight seniors, and they are all ecstatic to begin an incredible year at Wilcox!

First, we have the incoming juniors.  For Breanna Thomas, the idea of being a bigger part of the Wilcox community and her involvement in sophomore council inspired her to run for ASB. “A goal of mine is getting people more involved and have a better experience at Wilcox. As corny as it sounds, I love my class so much more than I did my freshman year, and that has made me want to serve my class and school,” she said.

Charlie Nguyen, already a member of ASB this year, will once again be an ASB officer next year. Her main goal on ASB is “to achieve vast school participation, but also bring awareness to those less fortunate and give back.” Since she is currently on ASB, running for a position again was a no-brainer.  Nguyen said, “My main inspiration was Multi-Cause week because I saw what an amazing outcome it had.”

Rafael Tolosa is currently the Sophomore Class President and was inspired to run because he wants his voice to be heard from the school instead of just his class.  Tolosa said, “As a member, I’d like to get student voices from all groups heard, not just those from our ASB circle. I want everyone at Wilcox to feel comfortable and not neglected.”

For Hoon Cho and his running mates Breanna and Michael, ASB has always been part of their path in high school.  Cho said, “We’ve always been extremely passionate about ASB.” He is excited to play a bigger role in the Wilcox community.

Next year, ASB will have eight seniors.  Brennen Oen, a current member of Junior Council, is excited to be a part of ASB.  Oen said, “Running for ASB was basically me hoping to make a real, lasting difference at Wilcox.” Homecoming is the event he is most excited to take on.

Christina Telebrico decided to run for ASB when she finished her year on council. Telebrico said, “As an ASB member, I hope to bring back some of the old traditions that Wilcox had a couple years back.” She added that she wants to bring back the old tradition of hall decorating for real points.  She also wants to carry on the new tradition of Multi-cause week. “The new week that this year’s ASB started showed that Wilcox cared about others outside of the bubble Silicon Valley is in.”

Davis Ngo ran for ASB because he really learned about what it’s like to be a school leader on Junior Council. Ngo said, “Some things I want to achieve as an ASB officer are greater leadership skills and trying to better myself, all while trying to help better our school community.”

Jo Choe has a connection with ASB. “The staff, the ASB-mates, all of it makes you want to do it again,” he said. He is especially excited to take a part in Fantastics.  He added, “I love seeing our class come together on a night like that.  There is nothing else like it.”

Madi Nguyen-Acosta wanted to run for ASB because she wanted to make an impact on the school and influence others. Nguyen says that being on ASB would lead her to help others, and it would also help her become a better leader.  Along with her fellow ASB members, she too is eager to be a part of Multi Cause Week. Nguyen said, “Considering how last minute we planned the whole event, it was a huge success and next year we can make it even better.”

Priyam Mohanty wants to lead and be more involved with the school as a whole. “As a member, I want more people to be involved, or at least feel a part of school activities,” he said. He added, “I am most excited to organize and enliven rallies!”

Shalin Shah ran for ASB because he wanted to help change Wilcox for the better.  He was inspired to be a part of ASB ever since freshman year when he first ran with Samia Abassi. Shah said, “I believe that Wilcox has a lot of great opinions and I want to represent those and honor them individually.”  He wanted to make senior year memorable, and is excited to be a part of the new culture on ASB.

Susie Warner wanted to run for ASB for many reasons. Warner stated, “I think that one of the main goals of ASB is to give the community new and exciting opportunities to have fun, create friendships, and make memories.” She believes that little actions go a long way.  Warner hopes that the student body will enjoy what ASB has to offer next year.

Currently part of Sophomore Council, Michael Crouch wanted to run for ASB to make Wilcox a more enjoyable environment. Crouch said, “After being on sophomore council, I saw what I could do for my class, and wanted to take it to the next level.”

The school year is winding down with just over a month left.  Although many are excited for the end, these people are eager for the 2016-2017 school year to arrive so they can display their love for Wilcox through ASB.
