May’s Rants and Raves

Rants:

Slow Drivers: Doing twenty-five under in the left lane seriously infuriates me. People who drive under the speed limit in the left lane, what is wrong with you? What good comes from causing a huge traffic jam, pissing off the next hundred cars behind you and probably speeding up the rate of global warming by about twelve percent? While on the subject of driving slowly, why not bash texting and driving, too? A few examples that come to mind are playing the flute while going down the I-280 and some dude who thought he was so important he just had to be texting on two phones at the same time while doing seventy. I have seen it before, no joke.

Mosquitoes: On one end, we have lovely and providing bees, while on the other hand, we have the utterly aggravating, disgusting mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are literally the most useless, vile scum to fly on the face of this planet. (Well, besides wasps.) Mosquitoes have only one purpose: to torture every other creature on the planet for all of eternity, until we all get wiped out by aliens or a nuclear war. There are very few animals that could be classified as completely useless, and on the top of that list is the mosquito. The blood-sucking, West Nile-carrying, malaria-infected insects are eaten by bats, birds and some fish. By supporting and encouraging the preservation of these animals, we could decrease the mosquito population to a point where they wouldn’t be such a bother anymore.

Common Sense: Everyone is born with it, so why do some people fail to use it? It isn’t called rare sense or hardly-there-to-use sense for a reason. It is not difficult to think things through and make a logical and well-educated decision based off those thoughts. Case in point: Going for a walk at night. That itself is not too bad, however, when it is so dark that drivers have trouble seeing you, then maybe, just maybe, you should consider one of two options. Either go for a walk before it gets dark, or wear some reflective clothing so you are easily visible to the people around you. If neither of these options sounds particularly appealing than don’t be too surprised if you get wiped out by natural selection.
Raves:

Bees: The beautiful insects are best known for pollinating plants and provide sustenance for the world. These little flying insects have more power than they probably know. Bees provide for ninety percent of the world’s thriving wild plants. That is an unBEElieveable amount, considering the size of the little buzzers. Being careful around bees is a wise decision as, once pissed off, these pollinators will unleash their wrath with stingers. Normal bee beehive-ior, by nature, mind their own beeswax and only attack if they feel threatened, while the sole existence of wasps is to ruin peoples’ days.

Rock/Metal Music: Looking for new music? Try Shinedown. Most people think that metal and rock is just a bunch of screamo with a lot of expletives and just generally edgy lyrics. However, this is an extreme generalization and a vast majority of metal and rock music often have deep lyrics, which most people could relate to. Shinedown, a rock group out of Florida, has a wide variety of songs, some better for focusing on tasks, while others are excellent for simply laying back and thinking about life. System of a Down, though their sanity is definitely questionable, has many songs fighting political issues.

Watches: Watches are like fine wine. They are not necessary in daily life; however, they make it more convenient. Many high end watches today even come with many features, such as Eco-drive, which uses a small counterweight and the user’s movement to power it. It will never need a battery because it can convert mechanical motion into energy. Others have tachymeters which can be used as to calculate the speed of something, by using the small numbers along the bezel and the second hand. These features are not necessary; however, make life more convenient for those wearing them. Also, the rhythmic ticking that can be heard in most analog watches is relaxing and can be therapeutic to many people. Even then, the aesthetic appeal and style is also nice.
