How would you describe Srikha in three words? Vivian Nguyen, one of Srikha’s closest friends, says “funny, outgoing and humorous.” Elli Kuh, another one of Srikha’s close friends, says “funny, loud, and honest.” Her humor and sociability makes Srikha Gopisetti, a sophomore at Wilcox High School, a beloved member of the Wilcox community. She is the Sophomore Class President as well as the publicist for the Indian club and the treasurer for the Interact club.
When asked about her role as an ASB officer, Srikha commented that she really enjoys it and has loved being a part of leadership since fourth grade. “I was freshman vice president, so then this year, I tried out for president… so now I’m part of ASB and it’s really fun.” She was introduced to leadership and ASB by following in her brother’s footsteps. Having been a part of leadership for seven years, she believes it’s “a really good way to get connected with the community.”
Srikha enjoys working with other students and staff, as well as showing school spirit through ASB. Her favorite things about her role are “the hands-on, behind-the-scenes work,” such as fundraising and bench painting. Srikha loves seeing all of ASB’s hard work make school more fun.
Srikha first became interested in the Interact club when her friend joined in seventh grade. She says that “I heard a lot about how she met new people… from all across the Bay Area, so I decided to join in high school.” Srikha’s love for helping out the community led her to join Youth Commission, a body of young adults who help organize activities for kids and teenagers in the area. Srikha is also on the Wilcox Bollywood Dance team, where she performs shows all over the Bay Area. “It’s really cool because you can meet people from different schools.”
She gets a lot of her inspiration from the role models in her life, like her mom and her older brother. “My older brother and I are really close… he gives me a lot of advice, because he’s older and he’s already been through this.” Elli’s favorite thing about Srikha is her ability to “make light of any situation. Even though something seems annoying or angering, she can always make light of it.” This plays an important role in her position on ASB, as she’s there to offer ideas to enrich the students’ experiences at Wilcox, and she believes it takes optimism and positivity to change the school for the better.
Srikha’s hobbies include playing on the Wilcox badminton and golf teams, reading, and shopping. She says that she can socialize and spend time with her friends while doing them, and that “they’re a super fun way to wind down when I’m busy.” She also explains that the sports are challenging, allowing her to improve every day.
Srikha hopes to attend a college in Southern California or Boston. She had gone on a trip to Boston with her peers at Peterson Middle School, and she really enjoyed being on the east coast. She wants to work in fashion design, but is also considering being an architect, since she developed an interest in architecture in kindergarten. Her admiration for design aside, Srikha is also thinking of going into the business field and doing something along the lines of marketing.
When asked about her favorite experience with Srikha, Elli responded: “every moment I spend with her… it’s a good moment, every time.”
