The Truth About “As Seen On TV” Products

Do you remember your nine year old self being enticed by the silly, stupid adverts on TV? Part of you knew that they were a waste of money, but there was also that part of you that wanted to try them out and see if they worked. You wanted to know if Slushy Magic actually made slurpies that fast or if Kinetic Sand was actually fun to play with. These well-known infomercials made the impossible seem possible, but did they actually represent the truth? Do these products actually work “as seen on TV” or are they mostly just a gimmick? I got the Battle Balloons Water Balloon Maker, Hot Buns, Spray Perfect, and the Wham O Hover Ball. I wanted to see if they lived up to what they claimed to do.

“120 Water Balloons freaky fast!” Is the Battle Balloons Water Balloon Maker slogan.  This product claims it is as easy as one, two, three! First, simply connect the balloon maker to your hose. Then turn on your hose and all the balloons will fill. Repeat this process three times to create one hundred and twenty water balloons in seconds. This product was true to its slogan and was actually very fast to set up. In seconds, forty water balloons came to life and fell into the bucket when they were full. The only issues that I had with this product was that some of the water balloons fell off the water balloon maker before they had filled up with a good amount of water. Overall, this product was true to what it was made out be and I was surprised at how well the results were.

Hot Buns is supposedly a quick and easy way to create a really nice looking bun for your hair. Like the water balloon maker, it also has three simple steps. Roll, snap, and wrap! The product comes with a long spongy bun maker that clips at each side. You are directed to roll the bun maker up your hair and then snap it together and then bring your hair around it. Ella Jevtic, a buyer of this product said that it is, “Really easy to mess up, but worked after a while.” I would not recommend this product because it is really iffy. Sometimes you can get it to work, but other times it hurts your head and can look very messy.

Spray Perfect is another as seen on TV product that supposedly makes painting your nails quick and easy. Spray Perfect is a mix between nail polish and spray paint. You are instructed to simply spray the nail polish all over your nails, wait till it dries, and then wash your hands. The extra nail polish is supposed to come off with water because of their smart nail polish formula. When trying out this product it actually worked really well and I was extremely happy with the end result. My nails looked perfectly done and there were no mistakes. The only downside of this product was that it reeked of chemicals and was also really messy to clean up.

The Wham O Hover Ball claims to make you play indoor soccer like a pro and give you amazing footwork. It is also supposed to be house friendly so that you can play soccer indoors and not damage your furniture or break any windows. The hover ball is basically a foam soccer ball cut in half. This product is very disappointing. Honestly, you would be better off with an actual soccer ball. On carpet, the hover ball barely moves. On wooden floor, it slides across the floor and gets scratched very easily. It claims to be soft so that it would not damage anything inside you house, but if you kicked it like you would any other soccer ball it could easily do a lot of damage. I would not recommend this product only because it is nothing special and a real soccer ball would actually move better and be easier to use.

Overall, these products did a good job living up to their expectations. The Battle Balloons, and Spray Perfect worked just as well as it claimed to work. Hot Buns and the Wham 0 Hover ball both were way over hyped and claimed to do way to many things that they actually did not.  However, I was surprised that some of these products actually were successful. As seen on TV products are always over hyped, but some actually do live up to their expectations.
