America gives those immigrating hope to start a new life with better living conditions and a right to freedoms they might not have ever had before. However, over the past few years, this dream has been denied to many hard working, law abiding people. America is no longer as inclusive as it once was, and should be, for the immigrants who seek refuge in this country for a better future.
In recent years, America has resorted to using a strategy of extreme vetting to choose who is considered worthy of coming into the United States. In the process, many educated people have been denied entry, usually due to their country of origin or the government they have lived under. This could lead to possible discrimination against people coming from war torn countries and refugees who are trying to make a new life in America. Many people also do not realize how allowing entry to immigrants benefits the economy and the cultural paradigm of diversity. According to the Center for Latin American Studies, the percentage of immigrants coming into the Unites States “was also very high among highly educated science, technology, engineering, and math workers (STEM).” The Center also stated that many of the immigrants that were let into the United States had a bachelor’s degree or higher. Having immigrants with these advanced levels of expertise can introduce new ideas that can virtually improve many areas of life that need a fresher perspective and a new approach.
Albert Einstein himself was an immigrant. He immigrated to the United States on October 17, 1933. He is remembered for his scientific work and how he changed the world with diligence and determination. They can help change the economy so that people can earn more, and thus live a happier and more prosperous life. Sadly, it is harder for uneducated people to enter the United States, even though there is a lot of demand for them. These immigrants do the work many people do not particularly enjoy, like work in areas of manual construction and farming initiatives.
The work ethics that these immigrants possess outweighs their lack of education. They do this while setting a precedent for hard work that they instill in their children and those around them. Immigrants to treat their citizenry as a privilege, not just a right. This is something we can all learn from.
