The Gran Mexican-Latin singer, who people may know for being the queen of cumbias and Tejano music, was born on April 16, 1971. Selena had lots of potential in her singing until suddenly, she got that taken away from her.

The Mexican-Latin singer never had anything to lose and never gave up on herself to give her fans a good performance, her environment, and her way of being was always so angelic.

When Selena was 8 years old, she had begun her profession. Her father was a member of a Tejano band from 1957 all through 1971. Selena’s father taught her and her siblings how to sing Spanish music and how to perform like Spanish singers. They gave performances at weddings in Lake Jackson and at the Pappagallo family restaurant. The band started performing professionally after 1981. Going into the 1970s, Selena had become the star of Tejano music, Selena also won Tejano Music Award for Female Entertainer of the Year in 1987 at 15 years old. Selena released an album with Los Dinos in 1989,  Alpha (1986), Dulce Amor (1988), Preciosa (1988), Selena and the Dinos (1990), Ven Conmigo (1991), Entre a Mi Mundo (1992), Selena Live (1993), Amor Prohibido (1994), and Dreaming of You (1994) are some of their albums (1995). After this album had been released, Selena had gotten more fame for the love that was put into her music.

Yolanda Saldivar, the manager of Selena Quintanilla-Perez, and the founder of her first supporters’ club, fatally shot Selena in the back on March 31, 1995, in Corpus Christi. Major Texas dailies and The New York Times both ran front-page stories about her passing. Her private Jehovah’s Witness funeral drew 600 people(Selena Quintanilla biography.com). At the Corpus Christi Bayfront Plaza Convention Center, her coffin was showcased to more than 30,000 people. Numerous memorial services and Masses were held in her honor across the nation.

Going into 2017, after losing Selena she received her Hollywood star on November 3rd, 2017. In the years after Selena’s death, the singer’s popularity still remained important. After Selena’s passing, she had a show created about her and her backstory. That consisted of how she got famous, how she passed, her background, and how she performed. Selena never had kids with Chris Perez (her husband) she had planned to have kids a while back before she was shot and killed.

The Quintanilla family opened The Selena Museum in Corpus Christi in 1998. Leading into 2001, she was put into the Tejanos roots hall of fame. On April 7, 2005. From Houston’s Reliant Stadium, “Selena VIVE!” a tribute concert, was broadcast live. The event, which drew over 65,000 fans, featured well-known performers singing Selena’s songs. The Spanish-language program in American television history with the highest rating was the live Univision Network broadcast.

Who knows what could have been made of Selena if she were still alive today? May her soul rest easy now. Long Live Selena Quintanilla-Perez.
